Description
The Durston 4″ Guillotine Shear features a revised and innovative design that improves flexibility and accuracy for cutting sheet metal in jewellery making. Unlike traditional guillotines, this model allows users to cut wider sheet metal even at 45° thanks to its uniquely designed stainless steel table and cutting guide, which prevent obstruction by the guillotine body.
Equipped with an upgraded backstop featuring smooth bearing guides, the shear allows quick manual locking and releasing with no unwanted movement, ensuring precise repeat cuts. Its patent-pending square drive system uses a rack and pinion mechanism to transfer maximum torque directly from the pull-down bar to the hardened, tempered blade, resulting in smoother cuts with less effort compared to older round shaft designs.
Cutting angles up to 60° can be set in 5° increments. The blade has four cutting edges, providing up to 20,000 cuts before needing to be turned or replaced. The rigid cast-iron body ensures durability and stability, and mounting holes allow securing the shear to any work surface. Tested with copper and other non-ferrous metals, it can cut through sheets up to 1.5mm thick with a full 4" cutting width. The shear is made in the UK and designed to meet the high standards of professional jewellery fabrication.
